Just a few metres away from Landhaus Johannes, and you are already in the heart of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park, which stretches across the Central Alps at altitudes ranging between 1,000 m and 3,500 m above sea-level.

The Ahorn “Leisure Mountain” in Mayrhofen is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, hikers and parents with children, and is a great starting point for a range of hiking and mountain hut tours. Relax in the wellness oases and enjoy the picturesque scenery off at the viewing platforms along the Ahorn Leisure Trail, visit the Eagle’s Stage, or the “Sinnesspiele”.


Discover the amazing alpine wildlife and wild flowers in the park while hiking and mountaineering on variety of high-altitude trails. Enjoy the routes which lead you through the many side valleys, where you can stop off for a rest at one of the alpine huts. The fascinating mountains will be sure to leave a lasting impression on you.


All information, guided tours, exhibitions, slide shows, presentations, and so on, are available to you free of charge. We can provide you with hiking and Alpine Club maps. You can also find recommended hiking and mountain tours in the nearby High Alps Nature Park in special books, guides and information packs. If you need rucksacks or trekking poles, you can borrow these from us free of charge. All you need to bring are sturdy shoes and waterproof clothing.

Your host leads guided tours twice a week, which take you to beautiful places in the high mountains of the Zillertal Nature Park on rarely trodden paths. We will, of course, provide you with special insider tips and recommendations on where to go.


The intricate rock formations and steep rock faces in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park promise pure excitement for climbing and bouldering enthusiasts. In the area around Mayrhofen-Hippach, climbers can look forward to exploring the numerous fixed-rope routes and climbing crags of all levels of difficulty.


Mount Penken is the exciting action mountain at Mayrhofen. Here, adventurous mountain bikers dare to ride on two breathtaking single trails, while free climbers, paragliders and expert climbers scale to dizzying heights.


Beginners can rent climbing equipment from the mountain station on Mount Penken and get a taste of the mountain air. With its child-friendly panoramic trail, Mount Penken is also a popular destination for families.


The “Ewige Jagdgründe” (Eternal Hunting Grounds) offers some of the most stunning rock climbing in Europe and you can find one of the biggest bouldering areas at Ginzling.
